I have read the report with high appreciation of the valuable work carried out by the Volunteer Reserve in defence of the Colony during the past year and of the progress made by all branches under the energetic and able
I gladly guidance of Commander J. Petrie, 0.B.E., D.S.C. note your commendatory comment upon the Force's conduct. I shall be grateful if Commander Petrie will convey my congratulations to the Hong Kong Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on their highly satisfactory performance of duty.
I shall also be glad if he will transmit to Mrs. Petrie and Mrs. Vernall my thanks for the help given by them to the Administration during evacuation last year, which the Commanding Officer has very properly brought to
my notice.
